When Do We Gather

WHO WE ARE

We are a mutli-generational group of Jesus followers. We want to be obsessed with prayer, making disciples, and taking the Gospel here, there, and everywhere. Biblical teaching and passionate worship fuel our mission.

At Temple, we gladly associate ourselves with three important groups of churches for the purpose of reaching more people for Christ and starting more churches locally and around the world.

Locally

The Greenville Baptist Association exists to help churches in our region cooperate together to reach people for Christ and do missions and ministries both locally and globally.  Baptist Associations serve as an essential tool for Baptist Churches to accomplish more together than they can separately.

State

The South Carolina Baptist Convention exists to serve and help meet the needs and assist in the ministry churches all over our state. We have committed to work together to impact our state for Christ.

National and International

The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest association of Christian churches in America. SBC churches include every race, nationality and ethnic group. Each Sunday, services are held in over 110 language groups. Also, it is one of the fastest growing groups. The SBC baptizes new Christians every day in the United States.

Why not just be an independent church?

We ARE an independent church! Every SBC church is completely independent. We voluntarily affiliate ourselves for the purpose of accomplishing the Great Commission. There is no denominational control or hierarchy, as there is in most other denominations. Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs. For example:

  • Every SBC church chooses its own pastor.

  • Every SBC church owns its own buildings and assets.

  • Every SBC church determines its own programs.

What are the advantages of affiliating with the SBC?

  1. It allows us to identify ourselves with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible.

  2. It allows our church to participate in the largest missionary organization in the world. Through the SBC's "Cooperative Program," we help support career missionaries in numerous countries throughout the world.

  3. It allows us to be a part of a tremendous mobilization of church members around the country. Southern Baptists proudly participate in short-term mission and disaster relief projects, at home and abroad each year.

  4. It allows us to be a part of training, through our seminaries, to better serve pastors and others each year who are called to vocational ministry.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

As a Southern Baptist Church, Temple fully supports and ascribes to the Baptist Faith & Message statement of 2000. While this is not a "creed" as such, it adequately represents our basic doctrinal beliefs as a local church body.
